’til Golden Brown
Welcome to ’til Golden Brown. Where crispy edges and velvety centres are celebrated. And where the summer months don’t scare us from turning on our ovens! When we’re not baking, we’re scrolling through portraits of brownies and chocolate chip cookies, or having an intimate moment with the peanut butter jar.
The go-to ingredient here is cocoa, not cacao, because we believe baking should be simple and accessible to everyone. You won’t find recipes asking fancy ingredients with high price tags, stocked only at specialty stores. Whoever said you needed pink Himalayan rock salt for a great pasta bake anyway?
You’ll hear us say “preheat oven to 180 C” a lot around here. Or 160 C if yours is fan forced. I’d give you the temperatures in F but I’m based in Down Under (that’s bogan for Australia) and we do things here with celsius, centimetres and pretty much the entire metric system. Sorry imperialists*.
* Who am I kidding, of course I’ll translate it to Fahrenheit and cups for you. You’re most welcome.
Who I Am
Well hey there, I’m Fatimah. And I’m based in Brisbane, Down Under.
I’m a recipe developer and food photographer of 6 years. Also a mum to a very active toddler!
I’d speak and type a lot more millennial slang if I didn’t have a reputation to keep – I blame this on my two younger sisters & cousin with whom I chat a lot and share memes with.
I’m excellent at
- being late to anything and everything,
- ignoring the piles of laundry spread across all three levels of the house,
- and preheating the oven at inappropriate times of day (or night).
And making lists apparently.
I’ve started ’til Golden Brown because I want to journey deeper into baking. I’ve always firmly held the belief that if I am to waste my calorie count on something, let it be chocolate (in the form of brownies), but for someone who loves baking, the ratio of brownies to other bakes is embarrassingly high.
Through this journey, I will research the how-to and thus explain the why-to behind each recipe I post. In some way, I almost want to pay this blog as an ode to my teen self who would throw things in a bowl and pray they baked nicely without caring to add “one egg at a time” or “fold flour in three batches”.
If you’re just starting out your baking journey, let ’til Golden Brown be your new home.
But baking aside, I am also setting up ’til Golden Brown to be your new food photography resource. I am going to go right ahead and say this cliché statement: this place is going to showcase food photography how-to like never before. Hashtag, truth.
